Poolside Oasis

Description of original landscape

This is a large one and a half acre lot in Edina has varying elevations and a pond at the rear of the property. It is heavily wooded with buckthorn, mature oaks and aspens. The home was custom designed and built with large picture windows to take advantage of the pond view and woodsy setting.

Owner’s vision and goals

The owner wanted a pool entertainment patio space that maintained privacy from neighboring properties. They also wanted to thin out years of buckthorn growth, reclaim the native woods and add new plantings to produce bold color in any season. In addition to year-round lighting to highlight and secure the property throughout the seasons, they also wanted to install a fountain in the pond for beauty and to prevent algae growth.

TriDesigns assessment

TriDesigns incorporated the existing glacial boulder walls with additional new wall construction to accommodate both functionality and privacy. A fire pit to serve a dual purpose was necessary in summer as a conversation area looking out over the pond and as a warming spot for ice skating parties during the winter months.

TriDesigns solution

The final design and installation of a boulder wall created a sunken private poolside oasis and entertainment area. Evergreens and flowering trees provided the requested privacy and yearlong color. Perennials planted on the hill with enhancement lighting made a beautiful setting for relaxation and summer parties both day and night. Stamped-concrete patios and walkways created a natural entry into the estate. This ongoing project has been testimony to great communication with the owner.
